Expanding Cigna’s Patient Assurance Program to include Trijardy XR

The costs of essential medications, like insulin, should not add to a patient’s burden. That’s why we offer the Patient Assurance Program^SM (PAP). As of January 1, 2021, the program expanded to include Trijardy XR - indicated to treat type 2 diabetes. The drug is a combination pill that contains empagliflozin (Jardiance), linagliptin (Tradjenta), and metformin extended release – three classes of diabetes medications working together to lower blood sugar.

Health benefit plans vary, but in general to be eligible for coverage a drug must be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), prescribed by a health care professional, purchased from a licensed pharmacy and medically necessary. If a plan provides coverage for certain prescription drugs with no cost-share, the customer may be required to use an in-network pharmacy to fill the prescription. Out-of-network coverage may be excluded or limited by plan terms. Clients must agree to provide “first dollar coverage” (prior to satisfaction of any applicable plan deductible).
